Mars the Divine

a novel

2: Chart of Temporale Symbols

"In the still time of my evenings in prison, I have started writing down all my thoughts and experiences. Included will be an explanation for the chart of symbols that is ubiquitous throughout the Temporale, the transportation network beyond time and space, which the Long Ago Alien Race, or Laars, left to those of us who would come eons later.

"I was eventually be able to deduce the meaning of these mysterious symbols, with the help of a great sage from Old Erdith noted for his visions and prophecies.

"These are not the secret and dangerous symbols of magicians or wizards, but they are in fact the lucid keys of the liberated mind--a boarding pass and a roadmap to the Temporale. I will treat of this further in a later book, but suffice it for now that, without recognizing this, no person can begin to comprehend the journeys I have taken with the likes of Nostradamus, or Wells, or Crusoe, and other brave men and women of the ages. The records of their secret works sometimes lie buried in arcane texts, at other times in plain view like the pyramids of Egypt for all persons to see but only for adepts to fathom.

"Today, in this Court of Inquisition on Divine Mars, in full view of Holy Sol and the stars and planets of heaven, I freely give you all the knowledge and insight I have gained in my journeys and adventures, and you can make of them what you will. I do hope they will illumine your thoughts, and that you will think kindly of me.

"Before the end of this story, I will show you the greatest miracle in the history of Divine Mars. It will not be a symbol or a sign, but a reality. It is not a thing of sorcery, but the unintended gift of the ancient Laars to our race. When you see this come to pass, I hope you will then understand that everything I tell you is true."

"Now hear about my journey thus far, and know there will be much more to come. This is a story that is just beginning."
