About

Old Tank Barracks… Many nights, when I was not downtown in Kaiserslautern bar hopping with my U.S. buddies or German friends, I would go back to the office near my barracks. I would write in solitude to gentle strains of Mozart, while ghosts and moths fluttered around me. I wrote several novels during those Army years,as well as the last of my poetry, plus some short stories.

In fact, one SF short story (unpublished) titled A Million Years For Love became the seed-bed of my later SF novel and Robinsonade (as these things are called) titled Robinson Crusoe 1,000,000 A.D. In 1980, my last year in FRG, I also hand-bound and published (12 copies) a collection of my poetry titled Pauses, based on info and materials obtained at a local German printing company.

I'd been a published poet and a professional writer-editor-news reporter by age 18, so this was a serious passion and an ambition rather than a trivial hobby. I had an English degree (B.A., University of Connecticut), spoke several languages, had been born in Europe and spent my childhood there. I was born a U.S. citizen, and came home to New Haven, Connecticut at around 10 when my father retired from the U.S. Army. My mother was a Luxembourg citizen.

More About Novel & Poems: *On Saint Ronan Street*. On this website, I will tell you about something very special: two of my projects, one of them a passionate love story, the other my one and only collection of poetry. I did not realize at the time, but forty years later I saw how gloriously linked those two works were and still are. The novel and the poetry selection will each stand on their own, and I have published them as stand-alones (in print and e-book editions). However, because of their deep linkage, I have published them also in a combined edition.

My "27." the double-header is titled 27duet, reflecting my age at the time, and the fusion of the two, being joined at the soul as I will explain. Twenty-seven is also the mythical, tragic age when rock stars and lyric poets seem to flare out (rockets) and fall to earth. I knew long before that it was coming, and had a plan. I would never write poetry again after 27, but I did put all that creative energy to work instead writing novels in what I call Fine Writing. As I develop this website further, I will tell you all about that.

Selected Images/Places. Paris was four hours away, and Heidelberg less than two hours. They were among my frequent weekend destinations. On the other hand, New Haven (in memory and imagination) was an unreachable place in the past with no destination in the present or future. Saint Ronan Street is a quaint college town thoroughfare that I romanticized in my novel of New Haven memories as I typed, alone in the old Tank Barracks (Panzerkaserne) during lone evenings with Mozart, drizzle, rustling leaves, and passing traffic out on the Mannheimerstraße. Perhaps I should have called it Updike Street, after the prominent New England author who was at that time still alive and writing his own college town romances (he was in the back of my mind, along with my B.A. Classical, Comp, and English Lit). A few quick images on this page (right), a thousand or more in memory. Oh, and the umbrellas thing… it later became also a Paris novel.clickclick
