More Info Soon: All about the new concept of Big Romantic Adventure stories: combining the best of romantic (not category romance) fiction with the best in thriller, suspense, and high adventure around the world. Think Doctor Zhivago and other huge-canvas thrilling stories that defy categories and set your imagination aflame. Think of big romantic adventure novels by Emile Zola (Second Empire series), Leo Tolstoy (Anna Karenina, Alexandre Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo), John Dos Passos (USA Trilogy), and similar literary greats. They had romance and adventure, but aren't trite or sappy. I found the novel (not movie) Doctor Zhivago in particular to have a melancholy or downbeat ending. It's definitely not watery cartoon fluff for light consumption. My other favorite model, particularly for Siberian Girl, are Herman Wouk's novels including The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. Add Exodus by Leon Uris… and we see a growing list of candidates for the BRAN trope. I prefer to think of it as a subcategory of Mainstream, if we must do these categories; definitely not a genre category, or we'd gut the Mainstream ('Literature') section of the bookstore.
